I actually bought this for my 27 year old daughter. I never thought I would need an appliance like this but my daughter LOVES it. She loves that she just sets the eggs in the cooker when she gets ready in the morning and she has perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs and they are ready when she is ready to go to work.
It works perfectly for both hard cooked eggs and poached eggs. Several of these were for use in the microwave and one was a "as seen on tv" electric egg cooker. I have in recent months purchased an asssortment of egg cookers. I do not put the poached eggs directly into the egg cups provided but insert paper cupcake holders first. For different reasons I was not happy with these egg cookers. I purchased the Oster electric egg cooker and just love it. The eggs cook great and there is no mess. I highly recommend this egg cooker.
The hard boiled eggs are so easy, but the poached eggs as recommended are too well done. It takes a little adjustment to find the amount of wanter to use for a soft poached egg.
My parents had one of these when I was younger and I didn't know they were still available until I checked Amazon. Cooking time is so fast that if you have to cook more it is only a few minutes wait. Works great for hard boiled eggs and poached eggs are great every time. If I had to come up with a negative it would be that you can only cook four poached at a time. Also, if it cooked more the unit itself would be too big to store on your countertop. So glad Oster is still making these after so many years.
Just the right hardness. We are happy with our Oster 4716 egg cooker. Also used it twice for hard cooked eggs. We bought it mainly to make poached eggs. Have used it twice for poached eggs and they have come out wonderfully. Again they came out great and were very easy to peal. Yes, we wish it had a louder sound when the eggs were done, however we are usually in the kitchen anyway when they are cooking so it really doesn't matter that much.
